ABB SHOWCASED ITS SMART SOLUTIONS FOR PACKAGING AND INTRALOGISTICS AUTOMATION

12 November, 2025

At Empack and Logistics & Automation 2025, held at IFEMA (Madrid), ABB Robotics showcased its latest innovations in collaborative robotics, AI-based automation, and digital twin technology, aimed at optimizing packaging and intralogistics operations. The company presented real-world applications focused on efficiency, flexibility, and safety, reinforcing its position at the forefront of smart manufacturing.

One of the key highlights at ABB’s stand was a collaborative palletizing/depalletizing cell featuring the GoFa™ 10 cobot, guided by an integrated 3D vision system. This setup enabled the robot to detect and manipulate various objects on a pallet in real time, without the need for constant reprogramming.

By combining collaborative robotics and depth sensing, ABB demonstrated how complex manual tasks could be safely automated, reducing operational downtime and increasing throughput in dynamic logistics environments.

ABB also presented a high-speed picking and packing cell, powered by the IRB 365 FlexPicker™ and managed by the PickMaster® Twin software. This digital twin-based platform enabled efficient handling of randomly placed products, significantly improving line startup and operational efficiency.

Additionally, ABB displayed the IRB 920T SCARA robot, capable of handling up to 22 kg with ultra-fast cycle times. Targeted at applications such as assembly and screwdriving, the robot delivered up to 5% faster performance than its counterparts, making it ideal for high-volume production environments.

ABB used the event to highlight enhancements to its RobotStudio® simulation software, particularly the new Automatic Path Planning feature. Attendees saw how optimal robot paths could be generated quickly to reduce cycle times and energy use, even in complex layouts.

Another innovation on display was OptiFact™, a modular data platform designed for smart factories. With its ability to connect to a wide range of devices and operate without cloud dependency, OptiFact gave users full control over their digital environment while enabling real-time monitoring and analysis.
