Solera, a leading Spanish manufacturer of low-voltage electrical equipment, has taken a strategic step in the digital transformation of its logistics operations by implementing an automated storage solution developed by Smartlog. Located at its Paterna facility in Valencia, this marks the company’s first venture into intralogistics automation.
With a product catalog of over 2,000 SKUs and more than 50 years of experience, Solera aimed to enhance efficiency in order picking for its medium-turnover product lines. The goals included reducing operational times, maximizing available storage space, and ensuring precise inventory control, all without expanding the facility's footprint. This initiative also aligned with Solera’s upcoming migration from its current AS400 ERP system to SAP, scheduled for 2025.
The adopted system features an AutoStore grid with 5,326 bins (330 mm each) and five high-speed robots that manage order picking on a bin-by-bin basis. The installation also includes two versatile carousel ports for both inbound and outbound operations, providing significant daily operational flexibility.
Fully integrated with the existing AS400 system, the solution is ready for future migration to SAP, supported by Galys, Smartlog’s warehouse management software known for its integration and interoperability capabilities.
The automation project will enable Solera to:
Designed for 16 hours of daily operation, the system is fully scalable and built to grow with Solera’s evolving business needs, offering a flexible and future-ready logistics foundation.
Rafel Cot, Solera’s Logistics Director, emphasized: “The implementation of the AutoStore system marks a milestone in our logistics innovation strategy. We’ve reduced picking times and errors, and improved overall efficiency, while laying the groundwork for a smooth ERP migration to SAP.”
Beñat Irazustabarrena, Business Development Director for Smartlog in Europe, added: “Solera’s project is a prime example of how smart automation can transform industrial logistics, providing a scalable and adaptable foundation for future growth.”
With this implementation, Solera reinforces its commitment to operational excellence, sustainability, and technological innovation, positioning itself to meet the demands of an increasingly competitive market.
