26 November, 2025As part of its continuous improvement strategy, IMPETUS has implemented a comprehensive intralogistics automation solution developed by Smartlog, aiming to streamline the entire material flow—from loom output to order shipment.
The operation begins with the Smartpick robotic system, which manages intermediate storage (WIP). From there, materials move through production stages until reaching the AutoStore system, which handles finished goods storage and executes order picking. The entire process is coordinated by the Galys WMS warehouse management system, fully integrated with IMPETUS’s ERP, and concludes with automated handover to the transport system for dispatch.
The AutoStore system will operate with 12,000 bins, 8 robots, performing over 1,700 daily movements and reaching up to 212 presentations per hour. Meanwhile, Smartpick will continuously manage 2,640 boxes in a 24/7 operation. Galys WMS ensures real-time coordination and synchronization with the ERP, enabling precise inventory management and full traceability.
This infrastructure will allow IMPETUS to double its storage capacity, reduce order preparation time, eliminate unnecessary travel, and significantly improve overall warehouse performance.
Headquartered in Barqueiros (Portugal), IMPETUS is a global leader in the textile sector. The company faces challenges such as high SKU variability, production-distribution synchronization, and space optimization. The new system addresses these with a modular, scalable, and energy-efficient approach.
The AutoStore consists of a grid with 13,774 gross positions, 3 carousel picking stations, and 2 conveyor-based input ports. Smartpick includes 2 redundant loading/unloading robots, 2 conveyors with 40 buffer positions each, and a 12-level vertical structure. Both systems are operated via Galys WMS, featuring a user-friendly touchscreen interface and configurable filters.
